The size? Launches app is a destination for sneaker enthusiasts to win the chance to get their hands on the latest drops from brands such as Nike, adidas Originals, New Balance and many more.
size? wanted to explore gamification on their Launches app for users of the app and members of size?access. To do this the content team created a series accomplishments and tiers of success for sneaker collectors to strive for.

The content team wanted to make use of technology that had been set up by an app developer previously.
We were lucky that we had existing technology set up for this, it meant that we had a flow on which we could hand the UI for this feature.
The key challenge for me, was implementing each of the achievement tiers and their graphics in way that was accessible and wouldn’t take up too much screen space, especially on mobile devices.

Since time was a factor in this project, I felt it would be best to refine the existing UI of this app feature, then gradually develop this in line with demands of the content team. My thinking was that that it would be easier to make changes to a simpler version and add complication gradually through the different versions.
It was this stage that I began to pull together some icons to denote various achievements for users. This was to go along side the various achievement badges and stickers that had been created by the content team…

Badges originally created by the content team to show app achievements.
At this stage, the challenge was how to incorporate the information in each of the achievement tiers. It was clear that we would need to incorporate the side scrolling functionality that had been originally built into the technology. In the end the size? content team decided to incorporate the original badges and stickers that were created for the campaign. This made sense from a brand perspective, however it would present a challenge from a UI design perspective.
In the end I decided to duplicate the shield that had been used for the badges that would indicate achievement tier for the number of pairs that had been won. In the end I just added a number plus some colour ways to indicate their place on the leaderboard.
